Hello All, I was recently doing research about men's hats and because someone online said so, men's hats are back in style.
I always fancied myself as a hat guy but kept it very simple with baseball caps and hand knitted beanies for when it got incredibly cold here in Los Angeles (like below 71 degrees).
While doing my research I found some interesting things and thought I would share them with the Adrenaline Radio listeners. There are over 37 different styles of men's hats, and have been dated back to before the 16th century the earliest know examples. Some of the more common types of hats are:
Caps
Cowboy Hat Derby hat Top Hat Boater hat Fur hat Fedora
Today we are going to focus on the Fedora being it has one of the richest histories and is the only one I'm considering buying, making it the only one I actually researched.
A fedora is a soft felt hat that is permanently creased, the brim goes all the way around the hat and it is quite common to find a band on the fedora. They come in a variety of colors from black, to white, to brown, to grey, all the way to plaid.

(A color only this man can truly love)
The fedora was a symbol of the upper class in the early twentieth century, the hat was named from the heroine of a play, Princess Fedora, who wore a hat similar to it. Their popularity began in he 1910's and by the 1930's and 1940's they were at their climax. By the late 1950's the fedora had begun to fall out of favor, partly because the vehicles of the 50's were smaller and made driving with a fedora difficult.
Fedoras are primarily made out of felts, felt is a non-woven cloth that is manufactured by condensing and pressing fibers together. other materials can include cotton, straw, canvas and various other items. There are roughly 300 different styles of fedoras with the most commonly known being the "Adventurer" or Indian Jones Fedora.

Other entertainment icons such as Humphry Bogart and Frank Senatra made fedoras a standard part of their films, current entertainers such as Justin Timberlake, Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp have also helped to spark the current revival of these classic hats.
I will continue my search for that perfect fedora, I'm close but haven't quite reached it yet. I still need to figure out the ideal hat size, color, decide if I want it banded, short rimmed, ribboned or feathered.
I'm thinking of going with a little known style called the Fedor-off.
