Fulfill Your Resolution

It’s like clock work, the changing of the seasons, the migration of the whales, or the setting of the sun. What am I referring to, the hope and dreams of millions of Americans who decide that “This Year” is the year? I am referring to, The infamous health resolution, you know the type “this year I am gong to eat better, workout everyday and lose all the weight I have gained in the last 10 years”.  The intention is good however; the effort does not match the resolution. How can it?

Why Can't I Follow Through?

What happens many times is the individuals tend to overextend the goal or resolution, thus making it unachievable. This causes the person to go back into their old ways and Baam! back in the cycle of overeating, missing working outs and feeling guilty. Eventually, these resolutions will turn into more weight and unhealthy ways.  I may have a solution, but first let me explain the reason for the excessive resolution or goal.  When an individual is considering a goal for the upcoming year he or she is using old reference points to make that goal.  Meaning, when that individual was twenty years old he could possible run 5 miles in 40 minutes. Yet, ten years later things have changed; age, weight, eating habits, and lack of workouts. So the goals that are being created are using old references that are no longer who you are. How can you possibly run 5 miles if you have not worked out in 2 years?  This is the problem many individuals are facing.

Here is a SIMPLE solution...

Do a good thorough evolution, self analysis of where you are today.  Look at your diet, your workout habits, and your current lifestyle.  It may be difficult at first but look deep inside of you. By doing this today it will pay off later in life. Make the resolution match your current lifestyle. If you are a little overweight and you have not run in 1 year, you may want to train for 2 months and start with 3 miles as opposed to 5 miles. This does not mean that running those 5 miles in 40 minutes is not possible, all it means is that it may not be possible today, but maybe in 6 months it can be done. Don’t wait until December 31st to make a resolution, make one everyday. Small steps everyday will help you leaps and bounds tomorrow.
